Last week, I had the chance to go on vacation, spend the week with my family and go to my cousin’s wedding. At first I was a little skeptic about making the trip with everything that has been going on with ICE and the whole Latino community. I know my rights and being Puerto Rican I am a US citizen, but being Latino and speaking Spanish seems to be a problem with some people. However, I wasn’t going to let them ruin this very happy moment, as the first of my six cousins on mom’s side got married.
Apart from attending the ceremony, we also had the job of filling some gift bags for the guests and the dinner table centers. I was afraid we would forget something or something would be messed up but everything was a success.

The day of the wedding, I couldn’t help but think about those who weren’t there. First of all my brother, his fiancé and my grandmother who could not make the trip but I know would have loved being there. I also couldn’t help but think of my grandfather, who I know would have been so proud of and happy for his grandson.
It was a beautiful Jewish wedding ceremony, followed by a very happy and fun party. I think everybody danced. It was great seeing my cousin so happy, seeing him share a dance with his mother as well as his three aunts, and of course his new wife.

In addition to the wedding, we also made a quick trip to Philadelphia and visited the Museum of the American Revolution (which seems very appropriate right now) and had a great Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich.

I played basketball with my cousin and was actually able to get the ball in the basket ten times. Yes, I counted; I was very surprised and proud.

We also went to Bethlehem, PA, and Smithville and Cape May, NJ .

I’m very happy the trip went well and I got to spend time with my family but most of all I’m happy for the bride and groom and wish them the best.
