While I was in therapy, here in Puerto Rico, I spent four hours a day in therapy. I had Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. In the last hour, sometimes I got one of those three repeated, or I had Musical Therapy.
When I heard Musical Therapy I thought they were going to teach me how to play a musical instrument, or teach me how to sing. But how could I sing? I was having trouble speaking.
My music therapist was this guy named Juan aka Gabriel Mora. I didn’t know what this guy could teach me. Then I learned that he was and still is, a real musician. During therapy with him I had to hold a note as long as I could by going “aaaaaaaaaaaaaa” or “eeeeeeeeeeeeee”, and so on with all the vowels, which is a part of speech therapy. He also helped me learn to follow a rhythm again. I had to choose a song and memorize the lyrics, to test my memory skills. It was part speech, part memory therapy and it was fun. This helped me a lot without me realizing it.
At the same time he was the musical therapist at the rehab center, he was a musician. He is still a musician, and a very talented one. I am very happy to see him doing what he loves. He is trying as hard as he can to make his dream come true and he is making it. He not only sings, he plays the guitar, as well as other instruments and he writes. You can see his talent in this Mitsubishi commercial, which he co wrote with the recognized producer Jose Gomez.
I want to support him as much as I can because this man helped me so much during my recovery. He helped me get better and all of this led to me being able to get back to my dream of writing. His dream is being a musician, so I will do what I can to help him share his talent with everyone.
Look for Gabriel Mora Music on Facebook, where you can see his talent and become a fan, like me.
