I saw the trailer for a happy movie, a musical, a comedy, a romance, no violence, no killing, no war, the kind of movie that just gets you away from the real world, with Ryan Gosling. We have him in a musical, that is both comedy and romantic, do I need to say anything else?
Everybody seemed to agree with me, I mean it did get 7 Golden Globes:
1) Best Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy
2) Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
Ryan Gosling
3) Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
Emma Stone
4) Best Director – Motion Picture
Damien Chazelle
5) Best Screenplay – Motion Picture
Damien Chazelle
6) Best Original Song – Motion Picture Justin Hurwitz
Benj Pasek
Justin Paul
For the song: “City of Stars”.
7) Best Original Score – Motion Picture
Justin Hurwitz
If this isn’t impressive enough, it is also nominated for 14 Academy Awards.
So obviously I had to go see it immediately. I thought it opened weeks ago so I kept checking every Thursday, but was disappointed every week. This Thursday, it finally showed up in the movie theaters so my plans for this weekend were: go see
La La Land. Then Saturday came and I went to the movies and I have to say I was not disappointed, it deserves all the awards it got; the actors, the music, the screenplay, the songs, the story, it’s all great. They all act, while they’re singing, dancing, playing instruments, act like they’re acting (Emma Stone plays and actress). It’s all entertaining and keeps you engaged with the storyline.
And if I can add something else, it has a great message that is very appropriate, at least for my generation right now. The world we are living in right now really isn’t the best place to find a job so, if they won’t give you a job, you have to make your job; it spoke to me, if no one will let you write for them, write on your own and start getting your message out there. Don’t sit around and wait for anyone to give you a chance, start making it on your own.
I highly recommend it and even if you don’t think you’re going to like it, maybe you will.

I’m an aspiring writer still looking for exactly what I want to write about, with a lot of creativity, imagination and desire to write.
I studied Writing and Rhetoric at Syracuse University where I explored many different sides of writing through my classes and extracurricular activities in order to narrow my search for an identity as a writer.
I have written for Citrus TV Noticias and La Voz magazine, both of which gave me the chance to explore different mediums in which to write in. Through Citrus TV Noticias I also gained experience in translating from English to Spanish and vice versa, which is also something that I would be interested in working on since I am fluent in both of these languages. I was also an intern at Syracuse University Press where I got hands on experience in what goes into actually editing and publishing a book.
Through out the last four years I have faced a lot of challenges, which helped chape the person I am today. After being in a tragic car accident, being in comma, having a Traumatic Brain Injury, and being in therapy for over a year, I am a new me, willing to face challenges and knowing how to deal with them. I want to write about my accident and life after it to help others, show them it can be done and help in any way I can.
