We were told last week in sewing class that most of us would finish our bags this week; I was sure some people would but I didn’t think I would be one of them. It just seemed like I still had so much to do that three hours wouldn’t be enough. I felt really far behind everyone else because I couldn’t find some of the fabric I had already cut out for the inner lining of the bag and I was still struggling with sewing straight lines.

When I got to class, I found out that I wasn’t that far behind, some people were ahead of me but a lot were more or less at the same point as me. That made me feel a lot better.
None of us are professionals, for some of us this is our first sewing experience and as we keep learning together we have begun to cheer each other on, learn for one another and share ideas. It’s really encouraging and helpful to get feedback from your peers.
I even got some help for the last and most stressful past of the project, turning it over because we sowed the last part inside out.

To do that, the teacher ripped one of the corners of the bag. That part really hurt; I even let out a little cry. Everyone but me knew that was part of the process, it was not a problem and I would easily sew it back together after. Then she gave it to me and said I had to flip it over but that was terrifying because I was sure I was going to tear it apart. I couldn’t do it, even though everyone around me, including the teacher said I wasn’t going to tear it apart. I didn’t believe her, after all my hard work, I wasn’t going to break my bag and have to start again.
Finally another, more advanced, student offered to help. She flipped it over for me and just like everyone said, it didn’t break. My bag was done and I have to say it looks better than I thought it would!

I’m very proud of myself and everyone in that class for putting in the hard work and successfully finishing the first project, especially Titi Margo. Her bag looks great!
I’m still a little choked I did it but I’m ready to star the second project next weekend. Now we’re going to work on a pattern. I still haven’t chosen one but I hope I can find one for a cute dress.
