Christmas in Puerto Rico is a very special one, every week has a new adventure or gift; this week had a few.

What started off as a regular work week, turned into an adventure as we headed on our annual Christmas field trip celebration. This time they took us to explore the town of Ponce, named after the Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce De Leon, on the southern coast of the island.

We visited some of Ponce’s interesting and historic landmarks, such as el Parque de Bombas, Centro Cultural De Ponce, Hotel Meliá, Museo Castillo Serralles, Jardín Japonés (Japanese Garden), and Cruceta del Vigía (Watchman Cross). We were gifted with that experience and a delicious lunch with a parranda, where we got to sing, dance and even do some improv Bomba.

But this wasn’t the end of this week’s special activities. Today was my graduation from the basic sewing course but, I couldn’t attend this without first going for a run because I was behind on two runs this week. I only had to finish three miles today but it was an easy run today so I didn’t rush myself and I finished in 49 minutes.

After running, I attended the graduation from sewing class. This was a small event where the students who had completed any of the various sewing courses offered this year by Miranda Textiles would receive diolomas. I am very happy and proud to have received a diploma, showing that I was able to complete both projects but most of all I’m happy I was able to learn a new skill. I hope to continue to use what I learned and I have a few ideas of things I want to do, so you might be hearing more soon about my next projects.
