After so long, I never thought I’d say this again but, this morning I went back to therapy. Unlike last time, now it was just for one thing, my ankle. I wanted to just get started with the therapy, but it doesn’t work that way; I had to get an evaluation first. This took a little while because I didn’t just have to explain how I think I hurt my ankle, I had to explain everything from the accident, surgery, epilepsy, and recovery to running. After the history, she studied my ankle, where it hurts and how I walk to determine how to deal with it.
When we got to the therapy part I was a little curious when she used an ultrasound on my ankle; I didn’t know what it was when I saw it. Next, I was a little scared when she began wrapping my foot and ankle in a bandage, placed two circular objects next to it and covered it with a blanket. I didn’t know what to expect and when she told me she was preparing me for the heat and an electric current. The electric current wasn’t very high because of my epilepsy but it still felt really good. That kind of reminded me of a pedicure but a lot better. I was sad it was only 15 minutes.

Next I spent some time doing exercises like toe extensions, moving my foot from side to side and up and down, and rocking my foot.

I still have seven more sessions to go plus I was told to do those same exercises at home and to put in some strength exercise for my ankles. I mentioned the lower body strength workouts I’m doing and she said those are good but to also do some for my ankles.
The therapist reminded me again our ankles are very important because they are what provide balance, stability and shock absorption for the body and mobility to our lower limbs. The are also very important for runners and joggers to absorb impact and reduce the risk of injuries.
I already set up my therapy sessions for next week and will also do what I can at home.
