This year I have been signing up for a lot more 10k races than 5ks. Last year I ran three; this morning I ran my fifth this year, so far, the San Juan Bautista 10k.

I started at an easy pace, still unsure if I wanted to take a quick walking break after reaching every mile  or half a mile. I couldn’t decide so I kept running until I got to the first oasis. After that I walked for about a minute.

Since that worked well, I even finished the first mile faster than I usually do, so I thought about continuing to do this for the entire race. I was able to keep this up for another two miles but once I got to the street where we turned around and started heading back, it got too hot. It started to get harder to run for so long, so I tried walking after half a mile.

That also worked well but by the end, after running up the hill at the entrance of Viejo San Juan, I was ready to finish and didn’t want to run anymore. Luckily I met up with a friend who had already decided when to start running again before reaching the finish line. I tried to keep up with her, but I had to take another small walking break before reaching the finish line.

I finished in 1:21:27, which did not break my personal record and was 12 seconds slower than last year. I didn’t improve my time but, on the bright side, it’s still not my slowest 10k.

Also, when I went to pick up my Bib number and shirt for today, I signed up for Las 16 Millas de Sabrina. I’m tired today, after just 6.2 miles and I signed up to run 16 miles in two months. It’s going to be hard, I already got an extra day of training next week, but I know I can do it and so does my coach.
