After spending Friday morning looking like a workaholic, working from the foodcourt and a mini sofa in one of the halls of the mall. I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it with all the noise, but surprisingly I was able to focus. I had to make a lot of phone calls, but I was able to hear the person over the phone, even with people peaking in the background at the food court. The only annoying part was a group subtly kicking us out of the table by sitting in the chairs around my mom and me and talking to each other over our heads. We were there first, ladies and you had the whole food court to sit anywhere and I was working, have some respect, please.

After we were kicked out and getting some gifts, we looked around for another place to sit. We thought about just sitting at one of the tables in the hall in front of Starbucks but I just felt bad I wasn’t going to buy anything. I didn’t want to be as rude as the people in the food court, so we found a sofa. In the end, I was able to make all the calls I had to make, and I still had time to look around a little bit and go to a few stores, where I ended up buying some stuff on sale. This buying stuff wasn’t supposed to happen but they were on sale.

After going to the mall we met up with my cousins, aunt, uncle and grandparents for lunch. My aunt, uncle and my three youngest cousins just got here for a vacation and I hadn’t seen them in three years. They were all there at my worst moment, and let me stay in their house for months after my accident. The last time we saw each other was here in Puerto Rico, the summer after my accident; I still had really short hair and my cousins were just going to middle school and high school. This time, it’s all a little bit different. My hair grew and they’re in high school and college; I’m working, I don’t need so much help anymore, I’m out of therapy, I’m one year and two months seizure free, and hopefully I’ll start taking a class in August. It was surprising for all of us to see each other, I still can’t believe they have grown so much, they’re in high school and they’re taller than me.

People being taller than me is no surprise, but my youngest cousins, my baby cousins being taller than me is; to me they’ll always be those adorable babies. I feel like not that much has happened in these last three years, since I’m still living at home with my parents, but seeing them today made me see that these three years have done a lot. The oldest one just graduated high school and knows how to drive, the twins will soon be driving, and they said they couldn’t believe I’m so old when they asked my age. That last part hurt a little (I’m not getting older, just wiser).

But it’s great being with them again  and seeing that they are growing up to be very good people was great. I hope they have a great vacation and to be able to spend a few good weeks with them.
