Today was a very special day for my grandfather, Abuelo. Abuelo is a retired engineer with a career of over 50 years. Today he had the honor of having the yearly Assembly of the School of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico, dedicated to him.
As we, his family, watched him go up to the podium and accept the recognition by his peers, we couldn’t be prouder. But he didn’t go up there alone, when they called him up, he got up and grabbed Abuela’s hand. She didn’t want to go up because it was his moment, but he insisted. She has been there during his whole career, ever since their first semester in college, where they met, and haven’t been apart since then.
When they presented him, they read a biography of his life and all his accomplishments in his long career as an engineer. During this, and two years ago during Abuela’s, I was so surprised by the numbers of things they have done. I already knew they were both amazing and that was only knowing half of the things they have accomplished in their lives.
It was so great to be able to see him so happy for a well deserved recognition, and to see him wanting to share this with the ones he loves, especially Abuela. I am very proud to be able to call those two my grandparents and I love them very much.
They have always taught me to always work hard and give 100% to whatever I do and they are both great examples of that.
