After months of not running very much, I accepted the challenge of running at the beach. I hadn’t thought or worried that much about the struggle of running again since I haven’t been running that often recently, I just worried about the heat. I thought maybe it would be very hot, which is why I decided to go in the morning. I had already pictured myself running to the water with sneakers still on if I needed to cool off.
To my surprise, there was no need for that, the heat wasn’t a problem because it was cloudy and rainy. It actually rained during my run. My struggle was endurance, which I had not even thought about. I couldn’t run for very long before I started feeling tired. At first I thought it was weird because I’m in good chape, I work out at least five days a week, but I haven’t been running a lot recently. I was also told that it was due to the type of exercise I do.
I’m not used to endurance training, most of what I do is interval training or high-intensity workouts followed by short periods of lower intensity moves. Even though not all the videos that I do are HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), most of them are pretty similar.
This HIIT training did come in handy in the end when the rain also got more intense and I was trying to run faster to get somewhere I could hide from the rain. The tree I found didn’t shield me from the water very well but I was able to hide until the rain stopped.
Even though I walked more than I would have liked to, I still completed almost two miles in 24 minutes. I really liked running at the beach. I think I should do it more often and if it’s not raining next time maybe even try get to two miles.
