For the past month, I have spent my Sundays in races. I competed in three and volunteered in two. This morning was my second time volunteering in a race, this time I helped in the 15th edition of the San Gabriel school for deaf children 10k. My job at this race was to help take out and organize the medals.

There were almost 1,000 people signed up so there were a lot of medals to organize.

Other volunteers and I took a small break to watch the beginning of the race at Roosevelt Avenue.

About 30 minutes later, as the first competitors began to arrive, we were all cheering for them, but continued to take more medals out of the boxes.

As I saw the people getting to the finish line exhausted, I began to think ahead to next weekend, when I run my first 10k. It made me a little uneasy seeing someone almost puke after he arrived, and I hope that doesn’t happen to me. I’m confident I will be able to do it, I’m just wondering what the experience will be like, but maybe it’s better not to think about it too much. I’m just going to enjoy my vacation this week, practice like I always do but also relax at the beach and do my best on Sunday.
