Last week, I decided it was time to start another adventure. I’m not giving up on running, still working hard on improving that, but I thought it was about time to start learning about AI. That’s the future and I can’t stand by and just watch, especially since what I do is work as a receptionist and write. These are two of the many areas where AI is being used.

I’m a strong believer that the human mind cannot be completely replaced in either of these areas because they require at least some amount of empathy and understanding that I don’t think can be copied. The customers I help at work like talking to and being helped by a person, who takes the time to hear what they need, understands it and looks for the best way to help them. Writing can’t always be copied by a machine, or even a person who hasn’t been in your shoes; there isn’t the same emotion, which is a very important part of writing.

However, this doesn’t change the fact that AI is an amazing and complicated tool that is already changing the world. We are still just seeing the beginning of this science and we can’t just sit back while it develops.

I decided to take on another challenge earlier this month and I signed up for an online program on Artificial Intelligence. Right now I’m taking the introductory course, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI), by IBM. I’m learning the difference between Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Intelligence, different types of AI, how we use it in daily life, Chatbots, Generative AI, and a lot more.

So far, I have been spending about an hour every night watching the lessons and taking the quizzes and I’m a little over halfway done with the first course. It’s been fun sitting down for a while and learning about something that has been part of my life for so long but I’m just really learning about it now.
