I wasn’t able to run or exercise for a week, which was a little frustrating, especially since I had already signed up for a 5k race this Saturday. I considered giving my bib number away, but this race seemed interesting because the last mile would be in a racecourse. I wanted to see what that was like, so I decided to walk.

I knew I wouldn’t make a good time, but it was just about the experience of running somewhere different. We would just be running the last mile in the racecourse, where just about an hour before horses had been racing.
I started the race walking fast and I felt good about it, but I got to a point where it was a little downhill and I felt like I could easily jog for a little while. Pretty soon I saw a friend and between talking, walking and running, we reached the racecourse for the last mile of the race.

I was excited about this because when I heard sand I thought it would be like running at the beach, but quickly learned it was nothing like that. First of all there was no ocean, second, this was not only sand, so much of it or even beach sand. I felt like I was going to slip and fall.

We didn’t run the whole last mile, only parts of it but we both crossed the finish line running. My chip time at the end was 43:56.

Not my best time but I did better than I thought I was going to, I didn’t run alone and didn’t fall, just tripped in the beginning but didn’t fall. I also completed my ninth race this year and because it was in Canóvanas, I have now done races in six out of the 78 towns in Puerto Rico. Only 72 left.

I like your challenge to race the 78 towns. Good luck!

Thank you!! Most of them are in San Juan so I don’t know if I can do it but doesn’t hurt to try.
