Today was a very exciting day. First of all, I had a 5k race early this morning. It was my first 5k this year and second of the year. I was excited because I did this race last year and even though I couldn’t remember how long it took me, I was sure I could finish faster this time.
I didn’t take into consideration what would happen if it rained, and even though it didn’t rain much during the race, it did before and everything was wet and slippery. I ran most of the race but I didn’t run very fast because I didn’t want to slip and fall. I tried my hardest not to step on puddles but as much as I tried, I couldn’t do that for 3.1 miles.
I finished the race in 42.04 minutes, exactly four minutes longer than last year (38:04), but I am proud that I made it to the race despite the rain, I didn’t fall and I ran more than half the race.
While I was really happy I got to run this morning, I was still looking forward to a much bigger event later today; one that most people, especially people here in Puerto Rico are very excited about, the Benito Bowl. It fills us all with pride that the first Latin solo artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show is our own Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio a.k.a. Bad Bunny, tonight. He is what everyone is talking about right now, especially after he won three Grammys last Sunday, including the most important award, Album of the year.
He has put Puerto Rico on the map, proudly celebrating our culture and making people aware of our rich, complicated and sometimes confusing history. This performance is a historic event, not just for Puerto Rico but for all Hispanics, in the United States and the World.
This is the perfect moment for this performance and I know Benito will do great.
And, go Seahawks!
