I didn’t think I would be able to do both, run and go to sewing class on Saturday morning, but I tried yesterday.
After training during the week, on weekends I usually do a long run or a race. This weekend, my long run increased to 7 miles. That’s too long of a run to do when the sun is already out in this heat, so I decided to join my group, as well as a lot of other runners before sunrise in Viejo San Juan.
I was a little nervous at first because it was really dark and I knew the group had already started when I got there. Luckily there was another member of my group there, so I didn’t start alone and there are always a lot of other runners. Even if you don’t know anyone, you’re never alone.
I didn’t know in what direction or how far I should run, but I was told to run up to El Morro fort and then go back down past the beach. I didn’t know how far past it was but I headed out thinking I would figure it out along the way.

This run includes two steep hills and one not so steep but long hill. From where I started, the steepest hill was the first one I encountered. In a way that was good because I got it out of the way fast and before I was tired. A few minutes later came the longest one, up to the doors of the fort.

After getting up to the fort, I headed back down the way I came and ran down to El Escambron Beach. Turning back around there is where you see the third hill. By that time, I was already tired and the sun was out, but all you want to do is finish so I ran up that hill like my life depended on it.

That last part back to the capitol was the most difficult one but it’s also where I pushed harder, first because I was tired, wanted to finish and I also had to get home. Having to get ready for sewing class after a run is really motivating, and I learned that I actually can do both. I ran 7 miles in an hour and 51 minutes and got a lot further ahead in sewing my first bag.
