¡Feliz Navidad! Merry Christmas!

After spending a fun, quiet and small Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my close family, my parents had the great idea to keep celebrating for a few days at the beach. I packed so quickly I was sure I was going to forget something, but as long as I had my phone and my medicines, I was good. When we were packed, we grabbed the dogs and headed to La Parguera, the small beach community in the south west.

The main purpose of our trip was going to the beach but I was behind on this week’s runs, so the first order of business the next day was to go to the track and run three miles. I learned a long time ago that it’s better to run earlier in the morning, but I thought it might be different this time because it’s December. That wasn’t the case yesterday but I was very surprised this morning on our way there for my Saturday long run, when I saw fog in the valley. It wasn’t just cold in the valley, it was also cold at the track in the next town over, which made running for 70 minutes a lot easier.

After running, we headed to the beach on both days and I loved it! Going to the beach after running turned out to be a lot better than running at the beach. First of all, I didn’t get sand on my sneakers, which is a big benefit. Also, not all beaches are good for running, especially if the tide is high and/or there’s a lot of people.

This was a last minute, sort of improvised adventure; we usually come to the beach for new year’s. This year was a little different but it turned out to be a great, end of the year vacation. A few things this year were new and different, for better or for worse, this was for better. I hope this is a good sign for the new year that’s just a few days away.
