We are one week away from my first half marathon so my coach gave me the longest long run I’ve had so far, ten miles. I was kinda hoping for eight miles but I really should be thankful it wasn’t 12.

Because I didn’t want to do that under the burning sun, I decided to join the group on the regular Saturday morning run. This weekend, the group was meeting in Viejo San Juan at 4:45 A.M. I made the sacrifice because part of the half marathon is also in Viejo San Juan and I knew I wouldn’t want to do that later during the day.

From the start I fell behind the group but I was going at my pace, I didn’t want to tire myself out in the beginning, I had ten miles ahead of me and a very steep hill. You do have to try to run up that fast because it’s harder if you don’t. The same goes for El Morro. I got up and down both of those twice today but the first time was easier.

This morning was the first time I’ve been running with my glasses, instead of my contacts and it was also one of the few times I don’t wear a baseball cap. I thought it would be very uncomfortable but I got used to it, until it started to rain and my glasses got all wet. I had nothing to protect the glasses from the rain and I couldn’t dry them off with my shirt because it was wet too.

In the end, I wasn’t able to finish the ten miles because I had to go home and get ready for sewing class. I got very close, 9.82 miles. I wasn’t able to finish later like I wanted to but at least I know I will be able to handle probably the most difficult part of the race.

After that very hectic morning, I was a little tired at sewing class and was having a little trouble controlling the fabric on the sewing machine. I had to unsew and start over again a few times because the string wasn’t where it was supposed to be. Regardless, I was still able to get a lot done, but I’m still not finished. There’s a lot I still need to do even though the dress is already but together.

Next week I won’t run on Saturday so hopefully I can finish the dress.
