Today was my eighth and last day of therapy for my ankle and it feels a million times better. Therapy was a success, as it always is when you are consistent and do exactly as the therapist says. I learned this lesson 12 years ago in intensive therapy. It’s not just about what you do in therapy but also what you do and don’t do after.

This time, they were just an hour long but I was told I had to do some exercises and stretches at home, as long as I did put too much pressure on my ankle. I was encouraged to use a stationary bike and do upper body strength training but no running or lower body strength.

Before leaving, I asked if I could run yet. I was told I could start walking and then slowly start jogging a little. When I told my coach I was done with therapy he told me to just walk tomorrow to see how I feel.
From now on I will be better about stretching before running, doing what I learned in therapy and I also know what I should do if I feel any pain.
It looks like September will be the first month I don’t go to a race since October of last year but I’m looking on the bright side. I’m seeing this as a positive thing, a very needed break and rest because I ran in 15 races in 11 months. Even if they were just 5k, it was still a lot. Maybe this was my body telling me to take a break.
But, I’m excited to get back to the track, even if I’m just walking and slowly get back to work on preparing for the big race in November.
