Ever since my EEG last month, I have been so sure that I was going to have very positive results, maybe even having the possibility of being able to lower my dosage. It has been stable for so long, I thought maybe the activity had finally started to become less.

I believed and hoped that, until Wednesday night, the night before my appointment to get the results. That’s when I got nervous that he was going to tell me the results showed an increase in activity and he was going to give me a lot of instructions I wouldn’t be able to remember. I wanted to make sure someone could go with me so they could also hear what the doctor said in case I forgot.

After I was reminded that if anything was wrong they would have already called me back, I relaxed a little, but still wanted someone to go with me in case he made any changes or I had to do anything before my next appointment. .

When I walked into his office, he didn’t look worried, which was a great sign, but didn’t look too excited like I was secretly hoping he would. He asked how everything was and I took the chance to tell him about all my recent races and that I’ve been running more. I think it’s important to tell my doctors, especially him, considering my medical history.

Other times I talked to him about this, he had told me, running doesn’t worry him, as long as I stay hydrated. The first time I mentioned this, he suggested sugar gels if I felt like I needed them, but this time he said I have to make sure to take electrolytes and sugar gels on longer races. This time he was more serious about staying hydrated, taking sugar gels and stopping for a break if I was tired; these weren’t suggestions anymore, they were instructions. .

Before we began discussing the results, he also asked if I’ve had any seizures, after which I imagined there was still abnormal electrical activity. .

This time he didn’t say that there’s less activity, he just said that there is, so I guess it’s the same as last time. He said that we can’t consider changing any medication or dosage because this is the same thing we have been seeing for years and if we change anything it’s very possible that I will start having seizures again. He said I need to keep doing what I have been doing.

I’m very happy that I really shouldn’t have worried about anything before the appointment and that the seizures are still controlled, that he didn’t see anything else abnormal in the results and that I can keep running!
