It had been two years since my last electroencephalogram so as much as I didn’t want to, it had to be this year. Even though I know I need to do this, I dread every time my neurologist says I need another one, but he’s right, it had been two years.

Two years is a long time, but I still remembered how this process of getting electrodes glued to my head for 24 hours went, so I exercised and washed my head before my appointment. This is difficult for me, especially in this heat. I only combed my hair, no mousse or hairspray so they could divide my hair and stick the electrodes to my head without any problems. I also wore a button up dress because I can’t pull anything over my head and I left the air conditioner in my room on because I can’t sweat so the electrodes don’t fall off.

After getting home and having lunch, I did my nails, played a little on my phone, spent time with my dogs, who luckily did not pay any attention to the 22 cables glued to my head or the box I have to keep next to me until tomorrow. I have also spent time watching Hulu, writing and texting.

The most difficult part of this test comes tomorrow, after they remove the electrodes and my head and hair are just covered in glue. The rest of it doesn’t hurt, but I can’t use a microwave or plugged in electronics.

I just hope, like I always do, that we get good results from this test. My EEGs during the last nine years have shown positive results, there is no reason to think this one will show anything negative.
