This morning I went for my now regular, Saturday morning 5 miles run. I went a little later than usual, it was almost noon, but it was a little cloudy, windy and it even rained a little.

I began my run at one end of the path, rather than in the middle like I usually do and ran for over three miles in one direction. I did that on purpose because I wanted to run for a little over 6 miles to get the feeling of what the 10k will be.

After I finished, I didn’t know if my coach would like me to run more than he asked me to. He knows what I need to do to train for a 10k, I don’t. I thought maybe I shouldn’t have done that, but I did follow his instructions for how long to run and how long to walk. This morning, I was happy to get two texts from him, one that said “Very good”, followed by three exclamation marks. One exclamation mark from him is rare but very good, three are amazing and it’s the first time I see them so I’m very happy and motivated.

I completed the five miles that I had to run today in one hour and seven minutes, six miles one hour and twenty six minutes, but I still wasn’t done. I still had to get back to where I started and that was still a little far away. I wanted to keep following my coach’s instructions until I got to the car, but I was already tired, so I walked most of the way back, except for the parts that were uphill. I decided to run those parts.

When I finished, I saw that I had run and walked 7.16 miles in 1:42:51. I did not set out to do that much when I woke up today, but I am amazed at the fact that I did that. I was resting for the rest of the day and will try to take it easy today and on Monday. Some runs next week look like they’re going to be a little tougher so I have to be ready for that.
