I’m finally an adult who pays for her loans

You know that thing that there are not a lot of jobs? People can’t find jobs in Puerto Rico, even less for young people, and very few for writers. Oooh and there’s this other thing that right before you graduate, you have this horrible accident, so then you can’t work after you graduate. You can’t … Continue reading I’m finally an adult who pays for her loans

A better understanding of TBI

Now I understand better what happened. I know I hit my head, but I didn't really understand what happened and why it was called a Traumatic Brain Injury. I thought it meant that it was so scary that I would be, or should be traumatized. But apart from being extra careful when crossing the street, … Continue reading A better understanding of TBI

Working, seizure free woman

Today, March 8 is International Women's day. I read that today is a celebration of women's achievements. While I would have celebrated all my achievements anyway if it was any other day, it is great that it turned out to be International Women's Day. It seems very appropriate that these two great achievements would both … Continue reading Working, seizure free woman

Experts: Music Therapy Has Dramatic Effect On Brain Injury Patients As I've mentioned before, I received music therapy in the rehab center I attended here in Puerto Rico, and I can say that what this article says is true. This not only helped me, but other patients who suffered strokes, and Parkinson's, as well as other … Continue reading Sing and dance in therapy

My aphasia

During my recovery, and after, I heard the word aphasia used by doctors and my family, a lot. I never knew what they meant by this, just that it was something caused by the accident. I now know that this is damage to the brain causing language to be impaired. This is why I was slower … Continue reading My aphasia

National Brain Injury Awareness Month

Today, we begin March, or Brain Injury Awareness Month. Because of this, I would like to dedicate all, or most of my blog posts to sharing information about TBI or other brain injuries. Eddie the eagle, another inspiration

The odds where against him, but he didn’t care, he wanted it, and he went for it. This positive, never giving up attitude, is what makes ordinary people extraordinary. A regular boy from England, who had always dreamed of being an Olympian, left home with a dream to be a ski jumper at the Winter … Continue reading Eddie the eagle, another inspiration

Strength? Cardio?

Is Strength Training or Cardio Better for Fat Loss? This was interesting. I thought we could get those muscles from just doing cardio, and strength training was so we could lift stuff. Strength training always seemed like it was for people who wanted to be Superman, people who wanted to have big muscles. I was … Continue reading Strength? Cardio?
